Room 7 have just started a descriptive writing unit. They really enjoyed matching interesting adjectives and photos of people and animals today.
ANZAC Decoupage

Abby learnt lots of things about her families involvement in the war and brought photos, letters and even recipes to school that were photo copied and used on her ANZAC decoupage. Both Abby and Caitlyn are very proud of their art work.

ANZAC DAY

 April 24th...
Today Miss Hollis is going to wear her Grandfather's war medals to the ANZAC service. This morning she talked to Room 7&8 about the medals. We found out that he fought in Africa and Italy - Room 7
"She talked about wearing medals. If you are wearing medals. She said you have to be respectful about how you wear them. If you fought in the war you wear them over your heart and if you didn't then you wear them on your right" - Jemimah
"Miss Hollis talked about her Great-grandad's arm being blown off in World War 1 and how painful it was when it was healing with the nerves growing through the bandages. There were some hard times but he persevered and it all came right and even got a street named after him!" - Bradley and Jye

"When she was 8 she went to a German ladies house and saw a photo of a Nazi on the wall and felt a bit sad that he died. We talked about the German soldiers following a bad leader but maybe not all the Germans were not bad people" - Israel and Hamish
"When people came back from the war the government let them buy land or farms a bit cheaper" - Brieanna
(Miss Hollis's Great grandfather Joseph Baigent)

A passage from his diary written during WW1

Mon. 3rd Dec 1917
"Very cold. Jumped off trench at 12. Just got 20 yards when a shell blew arm off. Knocked me silly for a time. Got up and ran back to trench (3 miles or 4.8km!) where T. Smith stopped bleeding. Walked out to aid post. Carried from there in 2 relays to dressing station. Got car to main station, was dressed & sent to C. C. S. 10. Had operation same night".
